I moved all my .gnome* stuff to a new folder borked profile was able
to log in GNOME. In there it gave me the error of OAFIID:

This is a usability issue for the wishlist.
Sound Juicer should suggest previously entered genre while typing in
'Genre' field. The current version 2.19.2 only offer Sound Juicers stock
Genre, not user entered genre, such as 'Comedy',
The package causing this on Gnome *is* gnome-session. gnome-session is
the only thing in /usr on my new Gutsy install that contains any
reference to esd.

The problem is that not all keyboards generate the same keycodes for
multimedia/internet keys. So it is not possible to map these keys out of
the box with a name (called a keysym).
To get keysyms for your keys instead of hex codes there are 2 possibilities:

I have a similar problem when copying lots of files to my new Western Digital
Passport 2 USB external hard disk.
Progress stops within a minute and the progress bar freezes. The progress
dialog does not respond and I can't cancel it.
Using cp there are no such problems.

I just found out that the problem does *NOT* appear with konsole.
Checking a bit deeper, it uses TERM=linux - setting TERM=xterm here
breaks a few things again. The other way round (setting TERM=linux in a
xterm session) is not helpful at all. Side-effect of TERM=linux is that
you lose mouse
