I have made some tests. There seem to be two problems. One is a Kernel/Hal
problem and the other a Gnome-Vfs but the first one isn't so important if the
second one gets fixed.
If I unmount a Seagate Freeagent disk under Gnome it works fine but it has no
power button.

I can confirm in gutsy. Using Maximize window horizontally also
results in the window being maximized both ways sometimes. This is a
pretty severe regression from 2.18, both of these shortcuts are

I installed from i386 image instead of amd64, gnome loads much faster
now. I get a usable desktop after 20 seconds and there is far less HD
activity on login as well.
This problem was always reported on amd systems in the forum, so I guess
that the problem is related to the 64 bits system.

The trouble is that with this fix it now no longer works using IPv4.
A quick Google search suggests that it is known that GDM's XDMCP does
not simultaneously support IPv4 and IPv6. The above fix has therefore
broken IPv4 support.

Same problem here, HP Compaq NX7400 laptop. At least 30 secs between login and
usable desktop. This is new, in Feisty this prob didn't exist. Interestingly, I
don't use 64 bit, since the CPU isn't capable of this. So I guess the cause of
the prob is something different.

gnome-screensaver fails to detect activity on screens :0.1 and :0.2,

Do you have unmounted the phone and waited until the data was written to
disk. Often it takes longer than the progress bar but normally Ubuntu
would warn you with a message box the data is written if you unmount it.

I can confirm this too.
Been using Gutsy for 2 weeks now, this is the first time it happened.
Rebooting solved the problem.

yeah, I did all in konsole with umount and didn`t receive any messages.
switched to gutsy allready and dont use the fone as a walkman any more .. now I
have an ipod. i suppose gnome-volume-manager isnt the right package..im using
kubuntu since two release cycles.
