The system has been updated, probably starting with dapper (the oldest
entries in /etc have a ctime of 2006-07-26 21:00).
I can get rid of one of the autostarted f-spots by disabling it in
System-Einstellungen-Wechseldatenträger und -medien, but I can't get
rid of the additional device entries.

I was quiet suprised when suddenly I saw odt-thumbnails in my document
folder. Reinstalling on another system I was not able to reproduce this
behaviour at first.
I figured out, that Tracker is responsible for making the thumbnails of
odt. files. But, I guess, you must run

That link is not the same issue; it has to do with the terminfo and stty
disagreeing with eachother. Fixing either the terminfo or stty should
fix the problem (they agree with each other in upstream screen AFAICT;

If I select Gnome (default), X starts without DRI (glxgears reports it
missing) making compiz impossible to use.
If I select failsafe terminal and then type 'gnome-session' to start

I still can't reproduce this myself. The only situation where I can get
this is if I edit a text file (which I have write permissions for) in a
directory that I don't have write permissions in. In this scenario, you
can edit the already existing file, but don't have the permissions to
create new
ok, maybe sort by name can be included in the wish list. The proposed list is
not always good for unknown files and thus it would be nice to have a list
sorted by names if I already know which application is the right one.
Concerning the dublicates, in my example I have some entries which are

Fresh install of 8.04.1, and I randomly see this error without any
remote anything. Sometimes the error appears, and other times it works,
with no rhyme or reason, except that it fails more consistently when I
click and type more slowly.

Unlock button throws an error, doesn't authenticate
doing rm -rf .gconf/apps/nautilus removes this problem for me, but when
I go into the nautilus preferences and change the default icon size from
100% to 150%, the problem comes back (nautilus insatiably chews up CPU
and memory). If I try switching the default icon size back, nautilus
remains in
