Same for me. Reason seems to be, that starting cups is now done via /etc/init.d/cups.dpkg-new and not cupsys any more. There is an brocken symlink called cups pointing to cupsys! Adding /etc/init.d/cupsys.dpkg-new start to /etc/init.d/rc.local solves the problem though may be not the recommended

This happens to me as well (Ubuntu 8.10, Evolution 2.24.1). Some but not all pdf attachments can only either be saved, or opened with "Remote Desktop Viewer" (which then obviously results in an error). Other pdfs open without problem, and all pdfs opened without problem in 8.04 on the same machine.
