Despite my inability to manually get it to work, as mentioned in my last
comment, Martin might well be right about /etc/gdm/locale.conf being the
roadblock, and it might start working when the package is built in a manner
that addresses this.
I hope this can be addressed in gdm in time for

I know it's an old bug but I'm still stuck with the I2C errors. I'm
using Ubuntu 8.04 with kernel version 2.6.24-23 (upgraded from 7.10),
and the errors are still there. I recently upgraded v4l drivers and
switched to 1.20 firmware, with no luck. I also tried the delay solution
founded by hugolp.

I am running the standard gnome Ubuntu and have Apport is enabled, but it seems
the crash isn't caught by it!
Regarding reproducability:
I forgot to mention that the crash happens with a Google calendar (sorry about
that). I tested the same procedure with a local calendar without issues,
I will try to absorb all this info and test it. It's a lot of new things
but after a quick scan they look clear enough. Meanwhile if anybody else
allready knows how to get a backtrace I should note that I've
reproduced the problem on another 8.10 installation and I can give a two

problem os that when removing EDS the user is not warned that About me
will break.

Hi,
There is a patch in the upstream bug now that prefers LVDS outputs,
which should give a better experience for laptop users as their panel
will tend to stay on the laptop panel.
It's partly just a stopgap until you can select the primary output in the
capplet though.
