I downloaded the evince source in karmic (which I am now testing) to try
to paste the code above and... it's already there. In fact, the bug is
fixed in karmic.
We did not see this as there where no comments on this on the upstream
bug, but as devs where busier fixing it, that's only good news.
I think adding some empty space (lets say 15-20px) to the left of the
list view would solve this and many more usability issues with list
view.

I think it is a shame that such a bug is still topical.
A lot of users use ccsm (more than simple-ccsm, I'm sure about this) and they
see the broken visual effect tab as a true usability issue.
What do you think ? Could this bug be one of those famous paper cuts ?

screen which seems to be the resolution most of the smaller netbooks are

I think List View should work the same as Compact View. Isn't it
possible to replace some code of List View with the code of Compact
View? In Compact View everything works as it should be. Only the
filename is highlighted when selecting files, you can use rubberband
selection and a secundairy

if they've simply been selected, rather than cut. I think they should
become semi-transparent instead.

No. Else the UP button should be even smaller. So it is not adapted to the
label just like it isn't a theme issue, I tried a dozen themes, nothing fixed
it and anyway, the default theme that matters has the issue as well.

If we're going to go so far as to have Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab,
Firefox users may also enjoy Ctrl+Page Up and Ctrl+Page Down. I use the
later instead of the former because of its intuitiveness and ease of
use. Hopefully this will be implemented in Nautilus as well.

I don´t know if it´s the same bug, but every application that makes use
of the gtk file dialog stops responding and uses 100% cpu after opening
the dialog and selecting a folder to open.
Sometimes the application comes back again after a minute or so, but
most of the time it just stays

BeigeGenius, *all* bugs should have been fixed already.
I am still not convinced that this is an easy-to-fix usability bug
affecting most users. Can someone please give some user stories
explaining how and when users are confronted with this bug?
