Currently, ALT+F2 works. Go to the top panel, change the color to solid.

I can confirm that this occurs both with and without compiz running.
The settings can be overridden in gconf-editor but the settings UI does not

If a WM other than Compiz or Metacity is used the workspace switcher
applet only shows the current workspace and cannot be used to switch

swap file as I am running from a USB stick). Memory consumption after 2

I cannot reproduce this behavior and I don't get the d-bus timeouts on
gnome-power-manager either. Can you please do these three commands in a
Terminal and check if any of them time out?

Same problem on a Apple MacBook 4,1. Brightness keys used to work like a
charme in Jaunty. Tested Karmic alpha and brightness keys don`t work

In Karmic alpha5, package gnome-screensaver 2.27.0-0ubuntu5, the put
display to sleep option under Power Management does not perform as
expected. I set the screensaver to activate after 1 minute of idle, and
the Power Management option
