Turns out there was corruption in the DVD I was trying to backup. A
workaround for the corrupted DVD I was reading was to do the copying
from the command line with a different tool.
To install the tool run...
sudo apt-get install gddrescue
...or install gddrescue through a graphical package
For me, it is also impossible to download photos when video clip files
are present in the camera. Looks like it is the same problem.

I have a feeling this is a problem with the login scripts.
This is a fresh beta2 install of 10.04 within 24 hours of release.
Booting up is fine. GDM login screen no problems. On first login though, the
system tries to issue 'mount /media/floppy0'
I can't confirm this, it's works for me like it should.

On first attempt to login via GDM, the system scripts attempt to run 'mount
/media/floppy0', causing I/O errors.
I am not sure why they changed their minds about the search engine,
though I am glad they did. Searching Yahoo for Ubuntu fixes just wasn't
working well. Google loves us, so we should love them back.
