First of all, GNOME never switched from Pidgin to Empathy because Pidgin
has never been part of GNOME, and has never intended to. It's just a
GTK+ app that has never collaborated with anyone... GNOME,
freedesktop.org, etc. So, before Empathy, GNOME didn't really have an

I can definitely say it still happens on a new user; although if I make
a new user, and log into it straight away, the panels are shown
correctly. It's only if I make a new panel that it happens.

and not a video - and it's in Lucid 64 bit.

Yes, it is reproducible, and I already wrote how to reproduce it:
* Create empty foo file on desktop
* Add it to foo.tar.xz archive
* Open it in File Roller
* Create new bar file on desktop
* Drag-and-drop it to archive
File roller will add bar, but it will delete foo file from there.

I've never seen this fixed, and it still happens in lucid. Fullscreen
programs such as aptitude still get that washed-out look.
(Observed on the armel UNE image)
