You probably installed the Gnome3 ppa at some point.
I had to run sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 twice to revert
nautilus back to a functional state.
You will loose any gnome3 packages you were running like gnome-shell.

This affects ANY attempt to transfer files (using Nautilus 2.30.1) between two
hosts with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on both, or from 10.04 LTS to 10.10

NO, not yet resolved by latest updates to 10.04 LTS

I have been attempting to use empathy to connect to IRC. NickServ will
infor me that my registered name is taken and to either use /msg
NickServ indentify password or /help NickServ will then tell me
that I have been identified as true2self
