Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1048098, so is being marked as such.
FWIW, the other icons are visible on the Desktop, it's the Computer icon
that disappeared. Why? Nautilus 3.6 has Computer standing for File
System (the / thing), unlike the earlier releases - see this link

Anyone with an idea on how to fix this? Please check if my attachments
work fine on your computer.
Also GIMP and PDF shuffler have the same problem. So I guess they use the same
library to render the pdf.

The problem now seems to be that the name column is set to the width of
the longest file name. If you have a rogue filename then the column can
be off the screen and very hard to correct. When corrected the new
column width does not stick so next time you open the same directory you
have to do it
