It seems that the people from GNOME are not interested in implementing
this feature. They ignore all the bugreports for several years now
although this can't be very difficult to implement.
About half a year ago someone submittet a patch that looks interesting
but until now nothing had changed.

As a workaround, there is another terminal emulator called 'terminator' that is
based on the same virtual terminal widget used by gnome-terminal but doesn't
suffer from this problem. Basically, it's the same as gnome-terminal, but with
many more advanced features.

#12 is incorrect. AFAICS, this is actually a libvte bug and all libvte-
based terminals suffer from this issue on my 12.04 machine. I've used
gnome-terminal, terminator, sakura, and I think evilvte and lilyterm as
well.

to one device at the same time. Rhythmbox tries to talk directly at the
same time as gvfs and two stomp on each other. It was hard to notice

Well, I found out what happened, as I stumbled upon both the problem and
the fix just a couple minutes ago. Apparently gedit lets you edit what
the keyboard shortcuts for commands are, and the help files doesn't say
a thing about it (I did look for such a feature, and I didn't find it).
