For me the gvm blackscreen could be fixed by installing ubuntu-gnome-
desktop and then running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm". However, this
created an endless login loop for all users. The way to fix the endless
loop problem was to select the Mate desktop environment before logging
in. Then
