This may or may not be worth mentioning but the reason I totally purged
lightdm was just using dpkg to change to gdm3 returns an error:

I tested again this AM beginning with a fresh install of 20180227,

I have a similar zoom issue with Ubuntu 17.10 (Xorg).
Since I have a HiDPI display, I use the 200% scaling option and assume that
this might be correlated with the issue.
When I open a screenshot of 1246x878px, it is displayed in EOG at about the
correct size, however is looks anti-aliased and
I'm seeing something similar on Bionic when using the Communitheme on
Wayland session, where the scrollbar also goes past the bottom of the
window. It does not show up when using Xorg. I think the problem also

I booted this image and no longer experience the issue.
I'm not sure if the default for this image is Wayland or Xorg...
the command "echo $DESKTOP_SESSION" gave "ubuntu".
The other thing is that I installed the packages linux-headers-4.15.0-10 and

It's still useful and easy to maintain, let's keep it at least until the
LTS. We don't have systemd user session yet, when we do (likely next
cycle) then we can drop the patch and move from autostart to user jobs.
