For myself I created temporary hack allowing to switch Keyboard layouts
(en<->ru) by Ctrl+Shift on key release. My method does not interfere
with other shortcuts. I use it myself on daily basis.
It's simple Python script which listen to Ctrl+Shift key combination and switch

When I download a file in a browser, the systemwide download dialog
window with the file explorer comes up. When I start typing the window
starts searching for files in the current directory instead of letting
me name the file, even though the file name text input appears
This renders eog unusable. I have images just a purple mess
(screenshot). Other similar image files display correctly. The
affected files display correctly in all other image viewers.

I've encountered the same problem as described above on Ubuntu 18.04.
In my case, the dual-boot is Ubuntu and Windows 10 and 2 NTFS partitions for
Windows. Ubuntu is also installed in a different partition (as above).

In Ubuntu 16.04 I could middle click on a file in Nautilus then drag and
