I found a leak in snapd-glib, which is fixed in snapd-glib 1.56. It's
not clear to me how to read the heaptrack data, as that leak doesn't
look significant to me there. Perhaps try again with updated focal to
see if there's any significant difference?

I tried that to no avail. I don't see any event at all on gnome-calendar
despite having many in my google account.
I also tried logout and then login on Online Accounts in gnome-settings, but
calendar is still empty.

earlier today does show in its revised form in gnome-calendar.
Does "Synchronise Calendars" on the "Manage on your calendars" menu help
