Reduce animation setting gets forgotten on e
After re-installing my laptop, this problem is back. This time it
happens after every reboot. I now have auto login enabled, and am
booting directly into the default Ubuntu desktop environment every time,
so the problem can't be caused by loading another desktop environment
such as Unity.

I think I've figured out why this is happening. If I restart directly
into Ubuntu, then it works correctly and the setting is remembered.
However, if I restart into Unity, then back into Ubuntu, the setting is
forgotten. Perhaps Unity is overwriting the setting?

call to packagekit. The old code was added in an Ubuntu patch, so I just

I have tracked down the cause if this problem. On Win+Mac gtk sets the
application icon directly, but on Linux it was handled by smclient which
would get the icon from the .desktop. smclient support was removed, but
the icon setting call was not replaced when this was done.

I meant the other bug is greeter related, and it is triggered by the
most obvious workaround for this bug - recreating your password using
passwd at terminal. The root issue is probably the same so if someone
makes a fix for either bug they should probably make sure it addresses

alacarte is doing - making the directory, making the file, then crashing
when it tries to write a non-ascii character, so the files end up empty

It's been 4 years since I took up Linux, and not once has the forecast worked.
A previous suggestion to allow the user to be able to change the web site would
have been the way to go, but obviously, you know different.

After some extended use (eg 2 hours of continuous use of filters,
eraser, drawing, multiple layers) gimp starts leaking around 3MB memory
per second. It allocates large amounts of memory repetitively with close
to 1 second interval. Each time it does this the mouse pointer tur
cups error log

The default gnome printer control panel cannot detect usblp printers.
After I edited the .desktop for the unity printer control panel so that
it would display in gnome I was able to use it to detect the printer.
dmesg and cups error_log attached.

no you've misunderstood. the bug in question is bug #1106547 which i
believe apport has misidentified as a dupe of this bug. #1076830 is
irrelevant, and i shouldn't have mentioned it. it's similar but also not
a dupe.

To be clear: the problem here is that the password change dialog in user
accounts inside gnome control center demands that you enter your
existing password. This isn't possible after you have previously cleared
