It's not specific to Compiz or a window manager because when I swtich to
metacity it has the same effect. Nvidia 7600 GS 512 mb if that makes a
difference.

speed increase in the smooth scrolling. I am still encountering

When accessing the about:config menu you are unable to change any
numeric vaules. Doulbe click the value when the configuration window
opens where you can add a value the window locks up and does not change
the value. You are able to
I'm not sure if Novell/Suse issued a patch for this, but openSUSE is the
ONLY distro than this does not effect. I'm not sure a patch can be
pulled from that but it works with no regression or problems. I know
Gentoo pushed a patch in their build, but I have not used that distro in
some time.

I'm having the same issues here with an Nvidia 7600 GS 512 MB RAM, Gutsy
7.10 beta with latest updates. As soon as the screen begins to fade
before activating gnome-screensaver nvidia-settings reset losing gamma,
brightness, and contrast.
