gvfs (1.28.2-1ubuntu1~16.04.1) to 1.28.2-1ubuntu1~16.04.2
Plus 6 dependents
This fixes the problem on Ubuntu-MATE 16.04.
Tested on MATE 1.12.1 an original install.
Tested on MATE 1.16.2 (Martin's PPA)

Alex, I found Gnome runs out and connects to every launched URL before
passing it to the browser. I discovered this trying to hack around this
problem. I
Solomoriah, my sentiments exactly. I don't think this tight release
schedule gives the possibility *any* Ubuntu version will get shined and
polished. Ever. Can't happen. No way.
Intrepid adds insult to injury. The properties of a *.desktop file had
a Link tab which used to allow a copy/paste
If it WAS fixed in Intrepid, IT IS NO LONGER (in the 8.10 release).

Here's an example file.
It's created by dragging the site icon in Firefox to the desktop.
Notice the horrible filename, which Gnome desktop doesn't display.
Gnome displays a field internal to the file.

In case it helps, here is the SAME file renamed test.desktop
Place both in the same directory and Nautilus will display them identically.
Both launch in the same erroneous manner.
