Negative. I also had that issue and the solution I commented on in that thread solved some problems for me. Issues 1 2 persisted after that solution was applied, but I'm now unable to replicate them, so I suppose we can close this thread. Thanks, Brandon ** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu)

Setting /etc/samba/smb.conf to: name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host And leaving /etc/nsswitch.conf as default allows me to browse OK. Thanks for the advice Steve. You said: ... Opendns breaks the assumption that DNS servers won't return bogus records when asked for hosts that they

When I remove WINS from nsswitch.conf, this breaks browsing entirely for me. Ping by name also fails - resolution is incorrect because of OpenDNS. It seems I can connect and ping by name if I use the servername.local instead of servername, even though I don't define the domain of my computers at

Please forgive me if this is incorrect, but I want to see if this information helps others better troubleshoot this issue. While researching the issue for my similar bug report, I found that having a DNS server that responds to otherwise invalid host entries (i.e. OpenDNS) may contribute.

Sebastien, Thank you for your efforts. Based on your comment, I've reformatted and reinstalled Ubuntu. I installed WINBIND and changed /etc/nsswitch.conf to add WINS (because my Vista machine is in a workgroup and I have no DNS server): hosts: files wins mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return]

Correction: In item #5, you do not see all the share contents as expected. You see N-1 files/folders, as compared to browsing using the server IP address, where you see N files/folders, where N is the actual total number of files/folders in the share. In one share I'm missing a file, in another

A. Do you get the issue on every share? Every share gives an error on first access. Subsequent accesses display N-1 items, where N is the total amount of files/folders in the share. If a share has only one item, then 0 items are displayed. B. Could you describe how to set up a problematic one?

I don't think this is a Samba bug. I experience the same symptoms. In addition, folders in shares will often change to text icons after I open them (or try to open them). Some folders in shares are sometimes not listed, but show up again after a refresh. It does not make a difference if I mount
