I'm suffering from this , but only with gnome-sound-recorder. arecord
from the command line works fine; so does Audacity. Fiddling with
alsamixer makes no difference to sound-recorder (but makes the expected
differences to arecord). Machines is Acer Extensa with 64-bit Natty,

I came upon this problem when using efax to view received faxes. Like
the original reporter of this bug, I was hamstrung by the confidential
nature of the data, but I've managed to reproduce the problem using some
scans that are definitely neither confidential nor subject to copyright.

I attempted to upgrade (back when it was alpha 2), but the process
bombed out so I installed Karmic over the top of a copy of a happy
Jaunty install. The system is stable, upgrading OK, and I'm keeping it
up to the minute with updates.
Currently, running 2.6.31-10-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep

message, but am then asked for the appropriate passphrase and then ssh
connects appropriately. Unsetting SSH_AUTH_SOCK suppresses the Agent
admitted message.

Power management ineffective in Karmic
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
Installed Karmic alpha 3 AMD-64 over a copy of a fully functional Jaunty
install on Acer Extensa 5620Z. All components fully up to date. Power
manager settings are ineffective: idle timeouts don't work, laptop lid
close not detected
Nothing appears in /var/log/ when I change power management preferences.

I upgraded to Jaunty last night, and now I have this problem
(2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64

Unlike the previous commenter, I was getting no request for my password
to unlock the keyring.
Having read through the comments on bug #328445, I found
uname -a gives:

see some old friends and meet some new ones; I haven't run a debugger

Just had this, perhaps on low battery (I wasn't watching when it
happened), AMD64 on Acer 5620Z, Intrepid up-to-date, hopefully apport
