Thanks guys, had the same problem here, running sudo chmod a+rwx /tmp fixed it! :)
Thought it had something to do with installing VirtualBox before rebooting, but then realised that the error was caused by some fiddling I did earlier with /tmp in an attempt to make my system "more secure" (read it in an article)! It made it SO secure even I couldn't get in! Cheers! -- There is a problem with the configuration server.
