I am experiencing the same issue in Jaunty. I burnt a CD for a friend
who uses Windows and the file names were truncated to ~4-5 chars when
viewing in Windows - I have not been able to drop it back in a *nix box
to see if its the same here.

Update: So, with metacity, the above listed symptoms disappear. Seems
to be some issue involving compiz.real, Xorg and gnome-screensaver - all
of these processes increase in processor consumption around the time the
screensaver begins to load.

BTW - I am running a HP dv6000t with nVidia Go 7400 using version 177
of the nVidia drivers.
When switching from compiz to to metacity, the screensaver works
again... seems to be that Xorg also is behaving differently under Ibex
- it seems to shoot to 50% processor consumption every few minutes,

I am also experiencing this problem after distro upgrade to 8.10 from
8.04. When the screensaver activates, the screen fades to black and
then goes back to awake status without loading the selected screensaver.

criticism, but I agree that it would be nice to have this process
automated a bit... I have been using since Dapper, so I am not a exactly
novice, and I killed 30 minutes setting this up...
