From my experience, IF the chat windows is minimized, the new incoming
chat opens a new window, otherwise it opens a new tab.

A global proxy setting is very handy, but individual applications/protocols
must have a way to bypass the proxy.
Don't assume that just because I have set a global proxy I want everything to
go through the proxy.

I'm sorry, I don't think I was clear enough. When I say main window, I
was referring to the contact list.
When keyboard focus is directed at the contact list, invoking the
search-as-you-type behavior, and no

On Ubuntu 10.10, typing on the main window (searching for contacts)
resizes the main window. After that, you can resize it vertically but
the horizontal size stays fixed.
What I expected to happen: when I type on the main window, no resizing
