gdb exits correctly before the crash happens, so there is nothing in the backtrace, it seems that a new sub process is created and the main process exit correctly. the subprocess crashes but gdb doesn't give any info because has exited before. how to backtrace a detached thread? -- nautilus

INTERESTING! i was root (sudo bash) for an apt-get and i tested again the error, nautilus . in the directory of the tif file and nautilus went correctly and the preview showed up then i switched back to user mode (exit the root bash) and nautilus . gave again the eternal 100% processor

I can confirm this too, and the problem happens only with pdf files that use Type 3 fonts (you can check which type of fonts your document is using by pressing ALT+Enter in Evince). Just a piece of advice: if you are using Latex and the Computer Modern fonts to write your documents, make sure
