Public bug reported:
My laptop with an i7 10750H CPU and NVIDIA 2070 MaxQ GPU undergoes
overheating often. I checked the CPU usage and it is gnome-shell over
using the memory. it seems to use about 1.5GB of RAM, which is very
suspicious.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: gnome
Delan: Thanks. I don't get ttys -- a different bug, I think. I will try
the other workaround.

gnome-panel will not autostart on lucid

I am affected too. Nothing in gnome starts, even in failsafe mode.
To get a working desktop, I have to start an xterm session, then start
gnome-panel first and then start gnome-session. Starting a gnome-session first
from xterm does not work.
I got similar errors as mentioned in comment #4.
