The snap is now working. (In other words, not able to reproduce.)
I'm not sure what made the change but I did reboot several times.

Additional information that might matter... I have a second monitor
connected via HDMI output. Monitor is 1600x1200 and is rotated 90
degrees. It had problems on 18.04 with Wayland

This is a Lenovo Y50 which also has an Nvidia 860m (IIRC) which does not
appear in the list of PCI devices so I must have disabled it in the BIOS
or it is no longer working.

I updated to 18.10 in place. That fixes the problem with the blank
screen. Unfortunately the menu to the upper left does not seem to get
focus. To logout I go to the upper right and type logout which loads a
'logout app.' I suppose that's a different bug.

I have found that nautilus-sendto is crashing on my PC. Looking at 'dmesg'

could not get the X screen saver to respond but was able to
ctrlaltF1 to a console window, log in and run 'top' where I found
that all RAM and swap were exhausted (0 swap available)

Earlier in the day I copied about 4GB of files from an NFS mount to the
Sansa Fuze. During the copy, my wireless connection (iwlagn, Intel 5300)
dropped and I restored it by running sudo iwconfig wlan0 down up. When
the connection resumed, the file copy (using Nautilus drag
