But if you used a workflow which used, say, AdobeRGB as the colour

pdftocairo is limited by the fact that cairo only handles sRGB.
It is therefore unsuitable any time color is important, eg if the pdf
uses cmyk or named colors or icc profiles, et cetera.
It is fine for printing most web pages, since the browser likely also is
limited to sRGB.
And for simple
pdftops and pdftocairo are both from poppler.
pdftops is based on the original xpdf code and does not use cairo at
all.
modern cairo tries to limit the size of tranparency groups to just where

Great post... Someone should to change Ctrl+D; bash delete character or
gnome. Perhaps if gnome would warn (ok or never with an always do this)
before closing the tab. It is really annoying to lose all of one's tabs
due to the keyboard repeating this key combo.

This affects me as well with most PDFs, except for the test.pdf I just
attached (that I created with print to file from gedit).
If I print to file and choose PDF, the new document looks fine as well
(but still won't print)
If I print to file and choose PS, the new document is blank.

This bug is infuriating. It makes Nautilus unusable for any task
involving organizing files / folders. Time is wasted backing out of
folders every time you drag and drop a file. It is even worse if you
accidentally hover over the wrong folder.
