[Bug 199522] Re: Dim on idle does not brighten with activity

2008-04-10 Thread Jim Hutchinson
Ted, I actually wondered about that but my only other experience with a computer dimming when idle is OSX and as far as I can tell it isn't that smart. Good to know Ubuntu is smarter. Thanks for the effort. Out of curiosity, are the adjustments to the timing permanent or session based? In other

[Bug 199522] Re: Dim on idle does not brighten with activity

2008-04-09 Thread Jim Hutchinson
I'd be happy to give it a try but could you explain a bit how to do it? I suspect I have to add your PPA to my sources.list, update and upgrade but I'm a bit leery about doing it that way as I may get more than just this one change and tracking could be harder. Is there a simple way to just update

[Bug 199522] Re: Dim on idle does not brighten with activity

2008-04-09 Thread Jim Hutchinson
Yes, this is an improvement. thanks. When the display dims on inactivity, resuming activity brightens the screen. However, the display does not dim on inactivity regularly. While testing this it would dim after maybe 30 secs to a min. After a few cycles it stopped dimming. Maybe I need to wait

[Bug 191708] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_theme_meta_info_compare()

2008-03-29 Thread Jim Hutchinson
Thomas, I can verify that it happened for me with the default theme. I cannot verify that it's the same error. On a clean install of Hardy (both beta and alpha 6), opening the theme manager (settings - prefs - appearance) caused a crash window to open when trying to change the theme. I don't

[Bug 205949] Re: auto-complete in gnome-terminal dont work (TAB)

2008-03-26 Thread Jim Hutchinson
I think this is a bug. I can reproduce the exact same thing in hardy beta. With sudo as part of the command, tab completion does not work. This is a regression from 7.10. How do we reactive it? I don't think I have the ability to remove the question, nor does that seem like an ideal solution for

[Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking (was: compiz hides quick loading windows at login)

2007-10-10 Thread Jim Hutchinson
I do not have a bottom panel as the compiz tools make it pretty unnecessary. However, I've noticed that my top panel does not load until I click the desktop. It's not a big deal but not ideal behavior. I don't know if it's a compiz issue or a gnome panel issue. since compiz now loads my default on

[Bug 124440] Re: gnome needs a way to manipulate scroll speed

2007-10-08 Thread Jim Hutchinson
It's also really annoying with the compiz desktop wall in gutsy. You can't switch to the next desktop as it moves 4 desktops at a time (at least in my case). I see no work around in compiz or gtk. -- gnome needs a way to manipulate scroll speed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124440 You received

You have been subscribed to a public bug: This has been driving me nuts for a while now. The scroll wheel on my desktop mouse (it's an MS wireless optical mouse model 1008) scrolls rather fast. Instead of moving a few lines, it scrolls half a page or more with a very gentle scroll. The bluetooth
