remote volume monitor causing system to hang

I have been using jaunty for a while now on my laptop and decided to
install it on my desktop as well.
All ubuntu partitions are ext4.
I have been noticing after the desktop has been running for some amount
of time some programs or windows
Problem appears to be resolved in an up to date Intrepid system.
