The result of various conversations with the Gnome people is that the bug won't be fixed in Evolution 2.26. For Evo 2.28 they have replaced Googlemail support with CalDav, and reckon it should work. It looks as if Karmic has 2.28, but it's still Beta, and I won't be upgrading until it's had chance
