problem with curly brackets when reading script
You need to add #!/bin/bash at the top of that script, otherwise it
will use /bin/sh. /bin/sh is different from /bin/bash and doesn't
support brace expansion.

can't be found. But when the specified locale is found it will of course
use that one. So you are using the C collation rules instead of the
en_US.UTF-8 ones, and they are obviously different.
