*gah* ... I'm also having these problems. Non-geek family-members and
friends do not understand what to do when this happens. :}
It happens a lot with mis-named videos downloaded with FrostWire. Right-
clicking then selecting open with from the context-menu works of
course - but it sucks
This also happens with misnamed video-files and isn't something a
normal user would understand or be able to fix. Maybe there should be
some options:
* Ignore and view file with `app-name'
* Always ignore and view with `app-name'

Yes, it seems to happen once in a while with Edgy too.
It _might_ only be happening after installing new applications or
similar; but I have not yet confirmed this.

gnome-panel doesn't show all menu items

i'd like to confirm this; this also happens here
randomly, the menulists seem to hide some of the items - so one have to
scroll to see them .. this happens even though there is enough space on
the screen to show the whole list of items
this has happened for at least the last week i believe
