beforehand) and it crashed.
I then ran

Confirming it's only a gnome-settings-daemon problem.
Until it gets fixed, a workarround is to run xrandr manually.
For example: to have a VGA left of the main LCD laptop panel run this:
$ xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output VGA --auto --left-of LVDS
