I found kind of a workaround for this problem. 1. gedit /etc/default/grub 2. change: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi=off 3. sudo update-grub 4. reboot 5. now the brighness controls works but there is no indicator on the upper right corner

Hi, i have something simmilar on 2 HP laptops. one had brand new 10.04 install. I`ve also noticed that keyboard doeasnt work when this happens. ctrl alt backspace is the only solution [without hard reboot]. any chance to reopen this one? -- can't add, move, unlock applets no clock
