Here, with Ubuntu 8.04 up to date, problem occours after change gdm theme (gdmsetup). If I reinstall gdm and ubuntu-gdm-themes, the usplash work ok with progress bar e no Network Manager erros on shutdown. This until next theme change. -- Usplash without progress bar on shutdown.
