gnome terminal doesn't show input after exiting from scala interperter

After opening the Scala interperter, and closing it with either exit,
ctrl-D or :quit, a prompt does show, but no input that is typed is shown
in the terminal window. Commands that are typed in are properly
executed, just not displayed

actually, but the screen keeps hanging in the screenshot I'll attach,

I can confirm (marking as confirmed) and used Ubuntu-Bug PID to get some
more stuff the devs might need, which I didn't know how to get without
filing a new bug, so the attachments are at bug 650501, which I marked
as dupe

I can reproduce with any 'up' action, also doing it just once, in a
directory that hasn't finished displaying its contents. Going up once
lets the folderview stay in the old directory.

When one opens a directory with many files, it takes some time to
process all those files to display. When you click UP to go back to it's
parent directory, the large directory stays the 'active' directory on
the location bar.
