Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I'm running hardy on a Dell Inspiron. I was running xfce for a while, but have gone back to gnome; since then I have been having this problem. I don't get any Desktop icons. When I open nautilus from the command line, it crashes immediately.

I can add more information, which might allow others to duplicate the crash. I had a .desktop file in ~/Desktop (left over from some third party software installation) which was created by root and which I had permission neither to read nor write. Removing the file or changing the permissions
