I have the same problem when I have increase the upgrade of Ubuntu 9.04 directly with the update tool of Ubuntu 8.04, gnome desktop. So the SO upgrade go succesfull but with errors..and when I restart my computer it's all ok but when I increase an update with the same tool the problem go fixed as Sebastien Bacher said, use of python 2.5.
