This is still happening on GIMP 2.10.18 on Ubuntu 20.04, and renders
GIMP pretty unusable on a 4K display

This wasn't present in 19.04:
When returning from hibernate, audio devices is changed to hdmi (gp104 device),
which is not even plugged in. When playing audio and changing volume one has to
go into volume settings or pavucontrol to change the output/controlled device

A similar screen blink (about 1-2 secs interval) also happens at screen
wipe/blackout/timeout whatever it's called. Seems a similar issue; a
"smaller", other dpi ("high resolution") screen is glanced in the flickering

Also affects video playback, switching between fullscreen and windowed
mode becomes unusably slow. Playing games (The Long Dark as an example)
also results in flickering of a black screen when the volume overlay is
shown when changing volume

Here's a video of a typical loop. It's still sometimes possible to type
my password and press Enter to get out of this.
This is after a wake from sleep.

Tried to resume, and was greeted with this (attached photo).
It then threw me back to the display manager (lightdm?) where I had to
enter password, then the mutter/window manager's unlock screen opened
and I had to enter password again. No crash this time but very odd
behaviour

BAH! Seems this is another nvidia-driver issue. Resume works with
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau.
But is nvidia-driver officially supported? And what things might gdm3 be doing
differently than lightdm to trigger a resume video driver freeze?

I applied that workaround, but no crash files have appeared in /var/crash. To

Having updated to latest gdm3 with various hibernate fixes. gdm3
consistently freezes computer/makes unresponsive when resuming from
hibernate. Switching back to lightdm (outdated and poorly adapted to
hidpi) and everything works.
GDM3 also crashes on user switch, whereas
Downgraded to those 6 .28.0-0ubuntu1 packages and rebooted: both user switching
(black screen, unresponsive computer at 1st attempt at going to user switch
screen) and hibernate resume failed.
Reverting to lightdm and all those function again
