I'm not sure whether the following is clear to whoever is looking into
this bug: The issue arises only when using a USB3 port; it does not
happen when using USB2. At least, that's the way my 14.04/12 Gb system
is affected.

I also encountered this bug with Maverick using Evolution 2.30.3
(English version). Also on an Acer Aspire One, mine has an 8.9 inch
screen using 1024x600 resolution. Kaizer's workaround to disable the
buttons did the trick for me, thanks.

Thanks for your suggestions Martin. I tried following them, but without
success. It turned out that the compiz package was indeed not
installed, but after installing it and restarting there was no change in
behaviour. I also tried removing the ~/.gonf/desktop/gnome/session/
directory and
