I added the brightness applet and all I get is a blank sun whose tooltip

I just noticed that I was at the bottom of the playlist when that

Booting into Feisty, I had no sound. I realised that the reason for this
was that the 'headphones' were selected from the volume applet, and
their volume was max while the system volume was zero. So the fix was
simply to change the volumes.
Nevermind. I deleted .* and the problem fixed itself.

With what version of nautilus is this? Do you mean that you select the
folder in the side pane, right click, send to trash and then nautilus

with the vertical panel (ok, I don't like the sideways text). Please do

Public bug reported:
Gaim randomly hangs when chatting on MSN (with no other options). This
was probably not a problem with 1:2.0.0+beta3.1-1ubuntu6. but started
with at least -8 (not sure about -7)

After taking a look at the changelogs, I thought as much. Nevertheless,
it is a fact that while -8 crashed after 2-3 minutes, -6 (to which I
reverted) is stable. I'll try valgrind as soon as I find some time ...
