indeed I was originally talking about both sounds. (that I used to mute
by setting my sound volume to mute before shutting down the computer).

I had this crash on Lucid 32bits (see Bug #600520).
WORKAROUND : emptying ~/.config/menus fixes the issue : Alacarte works
again !
