I agree, for me it's mostly when the system has been running for a
while, so I've seen it 2-3 times first thing in the morning when the
system has been left running overnight.
I'm able to ssh into the machine and poke about, look at logs, report
bugs etc, but the display is hung.

Seems to affect me on version 3.2.0 as of beta2. Also I'm on AMD64.
How can I get apport to append to this bug report, it seems only capable
of opening a new one?

I've just done some further testing. The behaviour varies depending on

Thanks for the data point, but my failure to redraw doesn't seem to be
related to #802747: /apps/metacity/general/capture_before_unmap is set
to false but if I change the preferences setting to select windows on
mouseover, capture_before_unmap remains false but terminal windows fail
to
with a DeprecationWarnng. In
2.7 (and Python 3000) it's now a TypeError. So, you have to put in an
explicit conversion to int wherever this occurs.
There are quite a lot of packages affected by this! The bug of which
this is a duplicate is probably caused by this change too :(

I've just discovered that when connected to my wireless LAN, my Android
phone is unable to connect using it's 'talk' (Google Talk) program.
This leads me to suspect that the browser-based talk session connects in
a different way to these chat clients. I may have a firewall

I've upgraded to maverick, and that for the above reasons, and also
because the old version of gcalctool reads from the numeric keypad
without you having to have numlock on, have downgraded to the lucid
version as described above.
For anyone else who has done (or is doing this) I've found that,
Soren's patch worked for me, using Notes 8.5.3 CD4 on Ubuntu 11.04 on a
Thinkpad W500.
