I have an Asus Zenbook Duo, with an Intel Core i5-10210U with a mix of both
integrated and dedicated graphics.
My dedicated graphics is an Nvidia Geforce MX250.
About every two times I shut the lid of my laptop, I get no desktop with

out the application and toolkit, but not the compositor or Xorg):
* Firefox
* Emacs
* Electron apps (Keybase, Slack, Element)
* Okular
* OBS (maybe; this may be a different problem)
* FreeCAD (maybe; FreeCAD has painting
The specific part of the screen shot with obvious corruption is cropped
below. I'll try to get a video; one problem I have is that many of the
specific things I do that reliably show the problem are at times when
private data is visible on my screen.

I've tried manually killing gnome-settings-daemon before login. I can
confirm this allows the user's desktop to be properly themed. There
must be a subtle race condition that is exploited more easily in a
VirtualBox VM. I've run Natty on 2 different computers and VirtualBox
is the only place

SSHed into a server at work, I set it making a rar archive which should
have taken about 30-40 minutes to complete, and left for the evening.
Arriving back at work today, I found that the rar never completed and
was still going!
Maybe it wasn't gnome-screensaver per se, maybe it was power management.
Just turning the screensaver on and off now doesn't seem to affect the
SSH session (although it seemed to while the earlier rar was running).

This has gone away with recent apt-get upgrades, so no longer an issue.
Still would be nice to know what was triggering the screen-blanking
though, it still happens at the mythtv menu system, just not during
mplayer. Perhaps a function of mythtv itself? Launching mplayer from

annoying back in the day - especially on laptops. Using a touchpad is
difficult enough without the UI fighting against allowing you to open a

it upgraded without a hitch. It appears that all is now well as far as
my machine is concerned, but quite likely the bug (and lots of hung
update-managers) are still at large, so it shouldn't be marked as

week at least, the beginning of the month at most. So, I guess those
