In the appearance window itself. If you change e.g. windows' background, it's instantly applied to all windows once you click OK in the color picker. This does not happen with selected items background. The top most bar in the windows remembers the previously selected color instead of the newly

Aha! Looks like you need to have compiz enabled to make this happen. Open 2 windows. Hit the button and they'll get minimized. Then click one of them on the panel and that window will maximize (or restore) back. And now, when you hit the button, the minimized window comes crashing down on you. Can
