I was having the exact same problem. I spent hours fixing things,
double checking to have libdvdcss2, libdvdread3, ubuntu-restricted-
extras, and whatever else installed. I tried playing several of the
.VOB files, and some of them worked, so I think it was a menu issue. In
any case, this last step worked for me.
