Same problem with my USB camera, and one of my USB hard disks.
My SATA external USB drive will eject properly.

cntrl-alt-fx does not work with the binary nvidia driver, i believe this

camera volumes mounted automatically though the photo album tool will not eject
through right-click-eject in gnome.
