I am a complete Linux newbie -- just got a new laptop with Ubuntu Hardy
Heron installed. I can receive e-mail in Evolution perfectly, but
cannot send any e-mail. I am using the netzero SMTP server and have
triple-checked all the server settings in Evolution. I also tried
changing the encryption, the type of authentication, and other settings,
but nothing works.

When I click on "Send/Receive", the Send & Receive Mail window quickly
shows the pop receiving as "Complete", but the smtp sending reads
"Sending message 1 of 2" for a long time before giving up. I suspect
that Evolution is failing to connect with the smtp server, because if I
"check for supported types" of authentication under the "sending e-mail"
tab in the account editor, the "Querying server" window that pops up
never changes from "Please wait. Querying server for a list of supported
authentication mechanisms."
