evince 2.22.2-0ubuntu, it behaves like there is a memory leak that is
suppressed by a garbage collector: the amount of reserved memory grows
when doing operations with a pdf document (like zooming and scrolling).
When the document is left still, evince returns some part of the memory
to the system. For many pdf files the amount of reserved memory is so
big, however, that the system gets freezed with overswapping. xpdf takes
about 30 times less memory for browsing the same file (12M virtual
memory xpdf, 300M physical memory evince). Something is very wrong with
evince. If this is a minor bug (major desktop component not working),
what kind of major bugs are here?! After upgrading from 6.10 to 8.04 I
am seriosly considering looking for a linux distribution of better
quality.
